DownUnder Africa Safaris – why we are different!

DownUnder Africa Safaris is a boutique safari and tour company that provides a very personal service. We take people on exciting adventures to South Africa and Namibia. We will travel to a private game reserve in the Greater Kruger National Park and/or the Kruger National Park itself. Both these venues will provide spectacular wildlife viewing opportunities. The Etosha National Park is our destination in Namibia. Both Etosha and the Greater Kruger National Park are amongst the most acclaimed national parks in Africa. If you are a keen photographer, you will have fantastic opportunities to capture those images that you have dreamt about!

A tour of Cape Town is also part of the itinerary. Cape Town is an iconic city and quite possibly one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Of course we will also visit the nearby winelands where some of the finest wines in the world are produced.

DownUnder Africa Safaris caters for people who are reluctant to visit a new country on their own, or for those who want to go on a safari where there is a personal touch. We will be with you every step of the way. We will guide you through Sydney, Johannesburg and Windhoek customs. We limit the number of people on any one tour to a maximum of five, thereby providing the level of attention that will make for an unforgettable experience. Our preferred clientelle is the 40+ age group, although we will cater for families providing the youngest member is older than 13. DownUnder Africa Safaris will make all bookings, including the international flights, to ensure that we have everyone on board from the moment we get together in Sydney. We will stay at a Sydney airport hotel the night before departure for Africa for a meet and greet. This stopover will also remove any stress resulting from connecting flights not being able to land in Sydney as a result of mist/fog or some other unforeseen event on the day of departure.

My name is Alvin van Niekerk and I have been visiting the Kruger National Park and Cape Town for over 30 years and know both places well. I have always had an interest in the environment. It was probably my interest in wildlife and conservation that led me to study animal science and qualify with a PhD degree. I am also a keen wildlife and landscape photographer with a solo exhibition at the Pentax Gallery in Johannesurg as well as numerous published photographs to my credit.

I am passionate about the African bush and hope to show you just some of the plant/animal/insect interactions that make Kruger and Etosha such wonderful and intriguing places to visit. The Greater Kruger National Park and the Etosha National Park are two of the last remaining, viable wildlife reserves. They need our protection, so that the next generation can enjoy them as much as we have! For many people, there is a real desire to go on “safari” and see wild animals in their natural environment. I would like to make this event in your life an unforgettable experience, hence our caption – we offer more than a safari – we offer a lifetime experience. We stand by this statement! Seeing animals in real life is avery different from seeing them on television. One needs to smell the myriad of “atoms” that the bush offers up. One needs to see the power and grace of the large animals. One needs to see the beauty of th trees, flowers and vegetation. One needs to experience these sensations!

Cape Town is surely one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Not only does it have a naturally beautiful setting with Table Mountain as a backdrop, the wonderfully colourful people make Cape Town an exciting and vibrant city. Just 40 km from Cape Town one will find the town of Stellenbosch with its famous oak-lined streets, Cape architecture and of course the magnificent wine estates. Many of these estates date back more than 315 years. During this time they have mastered the making of fine wines, some of which you will savour.
